About TradeSalary

TradeSalary answers a simple question for people weighing a trade, and for apprentices and journeymen checking their pay: what does this work actually pay where I live?

The answer is already public. The Bureau of Labor Statistics surveys employers across the country and publishes pay for every occupation, state, and metro area. But it's spread across spreadsheets and hard to read. We take those figures, keep them exactly as published, and put them on one page per trade and place, with the range from the lowest-paid 10% to the top 10%, and what the pay is worth after the local cost of living.

What we promise

• Every number comes from a named government source with its date. See our methodology.
• If a figure isn't published, we say so. We never fill gaps with guesses.
• We only build a page when there's real data for it.
• Anything that earns us money is disclosed, and it never changes the data.

What's coming

We're adding each state's licensing requirements, checked by hand against the licensing board, plus apprenticeship and training program listings and practice tests.
